Having seen lots of squirrels up close has taught me at least one thing: Saying that saying a gray squirrel is gray is like saying a rainbow is blue. It's partially true, but not completely.

Its a description that leaves out a lot. It got me thinking about descriptions you might use for yourself. Descriptions that partially describe who you are but leave important things out.

Is there another, richer description of you?

Today, I am remembering that even the most polluted water can be purified. That is because the essence of the water is not changed by the poison. The toxins exist with the water, they are never part of the water. Since you are mostly water, what does that say about the power of your essence?
Hey everyone. Check out this exploration of the cultural myths that influence the way we think about what is possible and what isn't.

One of the most amazing substances in the cosmos is water. It is constantly changing, exists in many forms, and adapts to any situation. It is powerful, flexible, beautiful, and unstoppable.

You are mostly water.

So what does that make you?

This morning, a riot of crows was gathering in a pine tree off to the north east of where I sat. For me, that direction is about ancestors and new beginnings. The crows reminded me about the importance of staying connected to each other, to the wisdom of the past, and to possibilities.

One of the reasons I love the piano is the sounds that happen between the notes I play. You could call it resonance. It is a manifestation of the constant interplay between what we have been taught to think of as the physical and the non-physical. My finger hits the key, the key pushes the hammer, the hammer hits the string and the string vibrates. That vibration sets off vibrations in the other strings. Those vibrations set off vibrations in the first string, and on and on.

But it is also more than that. It is a combination of the strings and the air and my ear and the wood of the piano and the room and the walls and the building and the entire cosmos. And it is still more than that, because part of what happens can not be broken down and described like this. Part of it defies description.

That's why I love it.

You just have to experience it.

It reminds me of you.

The reason it is so important that you be your genius is because of what your genius manifests. It is the same as what happens between the strings. Your genius creates a resonance. In order for the cosmos to be what it can be, we need the resonance of your genius. It has to vibrate those strings only you can. There are no replacements. No one can be that resonance but you.

The cosmos is like an infinite field of piano strings, waiting to be played. But the symphony of the cosmos will not sound until all the notes are resonating. Your part, the part you were born to be, is essential. No one can be it but you. It is not a part you have to learn, it is a part you have to remember. You already knew it. You are already perfectly capable. You only have to choose to remember.

The bitter cold of this early spring could freeze the tears to my skin, and I see the ducks flying north. I remember that things happen when its time, not when its easy.

Saturday, March 11, 2017

Today, I am remembering that,

Like the snowdrifts,

Everything is always changing.

Tuesday, March 7, 2017

Today, I am remembering to be grateful for these difficult times,

Because sometimes in order for something that is stationary to be moved,

It must be disturbed,

And upset.

Sunday, March 5, 2017

Today, I'm remembering the practices that most enrich my life:

Careful listening,

Asking questions with curiosity,

And listening again.

Saturday, March 4, 2017

If I were president of the United States of America, I would wake up in the morning and ask myself,

"What can I do today to make life better for the people of this country?"

Than I would ask myself, "What do I mean by 'better'?"

I'm curious what your "better" would be, and if there is some action you can take to start to create it.

(Of course if there is anything I can do to help, let me know.)
Today I am remembering to be grateful for the pinch of the cold air as I breath in the new day.

Friday, March 3, 2017

Today, I am remembering that possibilities are like stars in the daylight sky.

Just because I can't see them doesn't mean they aren't there.

Thursday, March 2, 2017

Today, I am remembering to notice the tiny moments of perfection in my day.

Wednesday, March 1, 2017

Today, I'm remembering the difference between spontaneity and impulsive. Spontaneity is more likely to be when I allow myself to do something I've been considering, but talking myself out of. Impulsivity is when I allow myself to do something that wasn't a good idea in the first pace.
